The story goes back and forth between the past and the present, which kept it interesting. I didn’t realize which person was the one talking to the therapist until it gets revealed close to the end. It was tense, and a little rough reading about foster care, abuse and their pasts. The author does a great job vividly describing their experiences and grief and the unfortunate system that is our foster care system (both the good and the bad are reflected!). The pace picks up at the end with lots of twists and turns.

I didn’t really get the whole relevance of the lack of rain, and her history with her brothers was somewhat annoying. It was a good enough thriller, but nothing out of the ordinary. The twists and turns were expected and the characters were all kind of meh. A nice low stakes thriller.

Fun book for ages 8+

“Mayflies” is a story that you will always remember. It is about friendship, youth and the beauty of living. This book is filled with exquisite prose and many beautiful quotes.
